NE-02 Frontrunner John Cavanaugh Announces the Endorsement of Amalgamated Transit Union

Cavanaugh is building a broad coalition that has the momentum to win both the primary and general elections.

Omaha, NE – John Cavanaugh’s campaign announced that John has earned the endorsement of an eighth labor union, the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU).

ATU President John Costa said, "John Cavanaugh has proven himself as a partner to labor and working families across the state of Nebraska. His dedication to improving the lives of our members reflects a genuine understanding of the critical role they play in our communities.  As our union continues to fight for respect on the job, fair wages, the right to representation, and safer workplaces, we know John will stand beside our members and all workers in the district to push for a better future. The ATU is proud to stand with John and endorse him for Nebraska's 2nd congressional seat.”

John Cavanaugh said, “I’m grateful to have the support of ATU. I’ve been proud to stand with workers in the Nebraska legislature and I’ll bring that same fight to Congress. We need people in Washington who don’t just vote the right way when it’s easy, but who will actually fight alongside organized labor to improve the lives of working people. I look forward to working with ATU to invest in Nebraska's infrastructure and bring federal dollars back to Omaha.”

In addition to being endorsed by ATU, John is endorsed by the Congressional Progressive Caucus, the Committee to Preserve Social Security & Medicare, and has seven additional union endorsements, including AFSCME, the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) 1483, IBEW 763, IBEW 1521, the UA Steamfitters & Plumber Local Union 464, the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen (BLET) Nebraska State Legislative Board  and the Machinists, which includes IAM Locals 31, 180, 602, 612, and 1569, along with District 8 and District 19. John has more union endorsements than any other candidate in the race.

His long list of endorsers also includes former Nebraska Governors and Senators Ben Nelson and Bob Kerrey, former Omaha Mayors Jim Suttle and Mike Fahey, and State Senators Terrell McKinney, Ashlei Spivey, George Dungan, Danielle Conrad, Victor Rountree, Dan Quick, and Machaela Cavanaugh.

Cavanaugh leads in every poll that has been released to the public. Last Tuesday, the campaign released a new poll showing his lead growing to 43% among a five way primary field. Cavanaugh is running to stand up to Trump, lower costs, and fight corruption.
