John Cavanaugh Announces His “Transparency and Accountability in Congress” Plan
Omaha, NE — Congress is broken and Nebraskans deserve leaders who will be transparent and accountable to them. That’s why when voters send John Cavanaugh to Congress, John will:
Refuse corporate PAC donations.
Support a ban on Congressional stock trading and pledge not to trade individual stocks.
Hold a town hall at least once per quarter.
Host a roundtable for labor leaders at least once per quarter.
Host a roundtable for small business owners at least once per quarter.
Refuse to collect a paycheck during a government shutdown.
John says, “Right now we can’t trust Washington to act in the best interest of Nebraskans. Too many of our leaders are either too beholden to Trump, or too focused on their own image and interests to actually do their job. I’ve always approached my jobs in public service as just that – a service to the public. That’s why making these promises is easy for me. I won’t take corporate PAC money or trade stocks, because voters deserve to know that I’m acting in their best interest, and not influenced by a check or my financial gain.
The best part about running for office is getting to meet with and hear from so many different people across the district. I’m knocking doors already, a year out from the race, not just because I want to earn your vote, but because I want to hear from you and be the best possible representative in Congress. I won’t stop showing up once I’m elected, which is why I’m promising to hold a public town hall at least once per quarter, along with quarterly roundtables for labor union leaders and small business owners.”
Democrat John Cavanaugh is building a strong and broad coalition to flip Nebraska’s Second Congressional District blue and is proud to be the first and only candidate in the race to be endorsed by labor unions. Yesterday, the campaign announced endorsement from the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) 1483, IBEW 763, the UA Steamfitters & Plumber Local Union 464, and the Machinists, which includes IAM Locals 31, 180, 602, 612, and 1569, along with District 8 and District 19.
In addition, his long list of endorsers includes former Nebraska Governors and Senators Ben Nelson and Bob Kerrey, former Omaha Mayors Jim Suttle and Mike Fahey, and State Senators Terrell McKinney, Ashlei Spivey, George Dungan, Danielle Conrad, Victor Rountree, Dan Quick, and Machaela Cavanaugh.
Polling shows John has a 21 point lead in the Democratic primary. John is running to lower costs, protect healthcare and Social Security from the Trump Administration’s attacks, and fight corruption.
