Leading NE-02 Candidate John Cavanaugh Is Endorsed by the Congressional Progressive Caucus
Omaha, NE — Today the Congressional Progressive Caucus PAC (CPC PAC) announced its endorsement of John Cavanaugh in NE-02.
John Cavanaugh said: “I’m looking forward to joining the CPC on the frontlines of the fight to protect Social Security and healthcare, lower the cost of living, and hold Trump and his cronies accountable when they cheat Americans.”
“As a state legislator, John Cavanaugh has proven to be a fierce champion for Nebraskans. His long record of protecting workers’ rights and fighting to lower costs for families has put everyday Nebraskans at the forefront of his agenda,” said CPC PAC Co-Chairs Pramila Jayapal and Maxwell Frost. “In Congress, John will fight to end the Trump administration’s attack on our health care and build an economy that is more affordable for working people. We are thrilled to endorse his campaign for Congress.”
John has led the primary field in every poll released to the public, including one which shows him with a 21 point lead ahead of the next closest Democrat. In addition to the CPC, he’s earned the endorsement of the Committee to Preserve Social Security & Medicare, and has six union endorsements, including the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) 1483, IBEW 763, IBEW 1521, the UA Steamfitters & Plumber Local Union 464, the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen (BLET) Nebraska State Legislative Board, and the Machinists, which includes IAM Locals 31, 180, 602, 612, and 1569, along with District 8 and District 19.
His long list of individual endorsers includes former Nebraska Governors and Senators Ben Nelson and Bob Kerrey, former Omaha Mayors Jim Suttle and Mike Fahey, and State Senators Terrell McKinney, Ashlei Spivey, George Dungan, Danielle Conrad, Victor Rountree, Dan Quick, and Machaela Cavanaugh.
John is running to lower costs, protect healthcare and Social Security from the Trump Administration’s attacks, and fight corruption. John is the only candidate in the race rejecting corporate PAC money and promising not to trade stocks in Congress. Nebraska's Second Congressional District is an open seat and ranked the most likely seat to flip blue in 2026.
The Congressional Progressive Caucus includes nearly 100 Members of Congress.
