Leading NE-02 Candidate John Cavanaugh Says Trump’s $40B to Argentina Will Be Devastating for Nebraska’s Entire Economy
Omaha, NE — Today, John Cavanaugh, candidate for Congress in Nebraska’s 2nd District, issued a sharp rebuke of the “Billionaire Bailout Bill,” which he says amounts to “economic warfare on the people of Omaha and the future of Nebraska medicine”:
“This bill—what should rightly be called the Billionaire Bailout Bill—would gut Medicaid, decimate funding for nursing homes, endanger UNMC’s lifesaving research, and threaten the future of rural hospitals across our state,” said Cavanaugh. “It’s a cruel, reckless piece of legislation bought and paid for by the lobbyists and CEOs funding the Republicans in Congress.”
Under the proposed legislation, more than half of the nursing homes in Nebraska’s 2nd District could face closure or severe service reductions. The University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC)—a world-renowned hub for cutting-edge healthcare research—faces massive cuts, putting jobs, innovation, and patient care at risk.
Cavanaugh is calling out what he describes as a corrupt bargain in Congress:
“These cuts aren’t about fiscal responsibility—they’re about rewarding billionaire donors with irresponsible tax breaks. Congress is selling out our communities to the ultra-rich and sticking working families, veterans, and seniors with the bill. Our own Member of Congress just voted to strip health care coverage away from 25,000 of his own constituents – our neighbors – to pay for more tax giveaways to the wealthiest few in this country. This is corruption. Plain and simple.”
Cavanaugh is demanding immediate accountability and urging Nebraskans to reject a Congress that prioritizes the wealthy over the well-being of the people:
“The Billionaire Bailout Bill adds $4 trillion to the existing $36 trillion national debt—because billionaires have refused to pay their fair share for the past 50 years. While everyday Nebraskans struggle with healthcare costs, this Congress is handing out tax breaks to the donor class. This is not leadership—it’s economic sabotage. It’s time to change Congress.”
Democrat John Cavanaugh is a current State Senator and candidate for Congress in Nebraska’s second Congressional District. Polling shows John has a 21 point lead in the Democratic primary. John is running to lower costs, protect healthcare and Social Security from the Trump Administration’s attacks, and fight corruption.
