Omaha Professional Fire Fighters Local 385 Endorses John Cavanaugh for Congress in NE-02

The Fire Fighters Union has previously supported Republican Congressman Don Bacon.

Omaha, NE – Today, the Omaha Professional Fire Fighters, IAFF Local 385 endorsed John Cavanaugh for Congress in NE-02 during a press conference held at the Firefighter's Hall.

Full video and photos from the press conference can be found HERE.

Cavanaugh now has the endorsement of more than thirteen local labor unions, demonstrating broad support from Nebraska Organized Labor and significantly more support than any other candidate in the race. While dark money groups spend millions on misleading attacks against Cavanaugh, this endorsement is a clear sign of positive momentum for the campaign. IAFF Local 385 has consistently backed the winner of this race, including endorsing current Republican Representative Don Bacon.

John Cavanaugh said: “I’m grateful to have the support of the Fire Fighters Local 385, these brave men and women are heroes. Unfortunately, too many politicians act as if they are the heroes and put the needs of their billionaire donors, and big corporations ahead of the needs of workers. Workers in our district should know that if you send me to Congress, you will have someone who fights everyday for you. I will engage with you, listen to you, and take your ideas to Washington.”

Omaha Professional Fire Fighters Local 385 President Trevor Towey said: “John Cavanaugh has shown that he is going to fight for Nebraska working families. Over the years I have worked with John on legislation that supports not just firefighters, but all Nebraska workers. He has proven that he is willing to fight for all Nebraska workers. We believe as firefighters that experience matters. John Cavanaugh has that experience.”

Omaha City Council President Danny Begley said: “John is being outspent eight to one, and John is running his campaign with grassroots support and the working class. Nobody will be a better champion for workers than John Cavanaugh when he goes to Congress”

Nebraska State AFL-CIO President Mike Gage said: “A lot of candidates talk the talk, but John has walked the walk. He’s helped us stop or amend legislation that could be harmful to working families. He has proven he has the ability to work with colleagues who may not always be on his side.”
