Leading NE-02 Candidate John Cavanaugh Says Trump’s $40B to Argentina Will Be Devastating for Nebraska’s Entire Economy
Omaha, NE — John Cavanaugh released the following statement following President Trump’s decision to send $40 billion to Argentina, a move that will harm Nebraska’s whole economy:
"The MAGA Republicans and Trump are threatening Nebraska’s second most important crop and farmers. They’ve already savaged the Nebraska soybean industry with their tariffs, and now they are bailing out Argentina’s soybean farmers with 40 billion of our tax dollars.
This bailout will be devastating for our soybean farmers and in turn hurt our whole economy – it threatens towns, retailers, and tax revenue. Soy is our second biggest crop in Nebraska and we are one of the nation’s leading soybean producing states, and our farmers are already unable to sell their crops to China as China retaliates because of Trump’s trade war. Argentina is a direct competitor and by bailing them out, Trump is making it even more difficult for farmers to turn a profit and is only helping China.
The fact that Trump is sending billions to Argentina is a head-spinning betrayal to our farmers. The government is currently shut down over Republicans refusal to extend healthcare credits to working people. The $40 billion Trump is sending to Argentina would more than cover the health care credits that Republicans are refusing to fund. Trump is taking money out of the pockets of Americans and putting it directly into their competitor’s pockets all while increasing health care costs for working Americans. I’m running for Congress to put an end to this abuse of taxpayer dollars and actually lower costs for families and strengthen our economy."
Democrat John Cavanaugh is a current State Senator and candidate for Congress in Nebraska’s second Congressional District. Polling shows John has a 21 point lead in the Democratic primary. John is running to lower costs, protect healthcare and Social Security from the Trump Administration’s attacks, and fight corruption.
