John Cavanaugh Announces Six Total Local Union Endorsements, Building a Coalition That Has The Momentum To Win Both the Primary and General Elections
Cavanaugh announced two additional local labor endorsements, bringing his total to six labor endorsements – more than anyone else in the race.
Omaha, NE — John Cavanaugh’s campaign announced that John has earned the endorsement of two additional local unions; the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen (BLET) Nebraska State Legislative Board and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) 1521.
This comes after John announced the first four labor endorsements in the race. Last week he announced support from the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) 1483, IBEW 763, the UA Steamfitters & Plumber Local Union 464, and the Machinists, which includes IAM Locals 31, 180, 602, 612, and 1569, along with District 8 and District 19.
BLET Nebraska Chairman Adam Hausman said: “As a State Senator John has consistently stood up for organized labor and advocated for rail safety, and I know he’ll continue to do these things in Washington. John has been a true friend of labor and consistently fights for workers. Labor can trust him to keep his word and do right by us.
All Nebraskans need someone who we can trust to stay focused on the issues that actually matter here in Nebraska. That's John, and the BLET is proud to support him in this important race.”
Jerry Anderson, President of IBEW 1521 said: “John is the champion that union members, and all working people, need in Washington. He's the only person in this race rejecting corporate PAC money and promising not to trade socks in Congress, and we know from his record in the legislature that John will be with workers every step of the way. We're proud to have his back and endorse him to be the next Congressman from NE-02.”
There are more than 10,000 union households in Nebraska’s Second Congressional District, and their support will be critical to winning the primary in May and general election next November.
John Cavanaugh said, “I’m grateful to have the support of these six unions. I’ve stood with labor and working people in the legislature and will do the same in Washington. I promise that I won’t just be at your union hall during election season, but will show up and listen to you at every turn.”
Democrat John Cavanaugh is building a strong and broad coalition to flip Nebraska’s Second Congressional District blue and is proud to be the first and only candidate in the race to be endorsed by labor unions. In addition, his long list of endorsers includes former Nebraska Governors and Senators Ben Nelson and Bob Kerrey, former Omaha Mayors Jim Suttle and Mike Fahey, and State Senators Terrell McKinney, Ashlei Spivey, George Dungan, Danielle Conrad, Victor Rountree, Dan Quick, and Machaela Cavanaugh. He was also recently endorsed by the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare.
State Senator Cavanaugh leads in two polls that have been released to the public and has raised a higher percentage of campaign contributions from Nebraska than any other Democratic candidate.
