John Cavanaugh Announces the Endorsement of AFSCME, Now Has a Total of Seven Union Endorsements

John is building a broad coalition that has the momentum To Win Both the Primary and General Elections.

Omaha, NE — John Cavanaugh’s campaign announced that John has earned the endorsement of an additional labor union, the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME). 

AFSCME Political Director Brian Weeks said, “AFSCME members are proud to stand with John Cavanaugh because he’s always supported public service workers. In the legislature, he fought tirelessly for working families by leading the charge for paid sick leave and fair pay. In Congress, he’ll continue to be a champion for working people and focus on lowering costs for everyone.

John Cavanaugh said, “AFSCME members do critical work in all sorts of industries and it means a lot to have earned their support.

I’m proud to be the labor-endorsed candidate in this race. Nebraska workers deserve Representatives who will fight for their ability to be a part of strong unions.”

In addition to being endorsed by AFSCME, John is endorsed by the Congressional Progressive Caucus, the Committee to Preserve Social Security & Medicare, and has six additional union endorsements, including the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) 1483, IBEW 763, IBEW 1521, the UA Steamfitters & Plumber Local Union 464, the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen (BLET) Nebraska State Legislative Board and the Machinists, which includes IAM Locals 31, 180, 602, 612, and 1569, along with District 8 and District 19.

His long list of endorsers includes former Nebraska Governors and Senators Ben Nelson and Bob Kerrey, former Omaha Mayors Jim Suttle and Mike Fahey, and State Senators Terrell McKinney, Ashlei Spivey, George Dungan, Danielle Conrad, Victor Rountree, Dan Quick, and Machaela Cavanaugh.


Cavanaugh leads in two polls that have been released to the public and has raised a higher percentage of campaign contributions from Nebraska than any other Democratic candidate.
