Cavanaugh Slams Trump for Bad Trade Deal With China

Omaha, NE – John Cavanaugh, Democrat running for Congress in Nebraska’s 2nd District, today slammed President Donald Trump for the bad trade deal he claims to have negotiated with China.

According to press reports, Trump gave China greater access to American technology and agreed to lower tariffs, in exchange for China buying more soybeans and suspending export controls on rare earth materials. China had already been buying soybeans before Trump’s tariffs war. Soybean sales were only on pause because of the tariffs Trump put in place.=

Cavanaugh said, “Once again Trump got rolled by Chinese leader Xi Jinping and played games with tariffs that are hurting our economy and raising the cost of living for all Americans. If I’m elected to Congress, I will support legislation to repeal Trump’s global tariffs and reassert congressional responsibility for tariffs, like the Senate voted to do yesterday.”

Cavanaugh also went after President Trump for his $40 billion dollar bailout of Argentina and said it would “hurt the Nebraska economy by flooding the market with Argentinian beef instead of Nebraska beef, hurting our ranchers and Nebraska’s economy.”

State Senator Cavanaugh leads in two polls that have been released to the public and has raised a higher percentage of campaign contributions from Nebraska than any other Democratic candidate.
