John Cavanaugh Calls Out Dark Money False Ads in NE-02 Primary and Launches New TV Ad in Response
Omaha, NE – Yesterday, John Cavanaugh hosted a press conference where he defiantly called out the dark money Super PACs that are attempting to buy the NE-02 Democratic primary by misleading voters. At the press conference, John also announced his campaign is launching a new TV ad to call out the lies being told about him. Joining Cavanaugh in the ad are State Senators George Dungan and Ashlei Spivey who have stood with John to protect the blue dot and fight for reproductive rights.
Watch the ad here.
State Senator Ashlei Spivey says “Don’t buy the lies from the MAGA Republicans about losing the Blue Dot or a woman’s right to choose.”
State Senator George Dungan says “We know Nebraska Democrats will pick up additional seats this election, securing the Blue Dot.”
As with the nature of dark money Super PACs, Cavanaugh’s campaign does not know where the funding for these misleading attack ads is coming from. However, the Chair/Treasurer of this dark money group is an Omaha resident. Before the press conference, the campaign sent a letter calling on the dark money group to disclose its donors and stop running ads meant to intentionally mislead the electorate.
Read the letter here.
In the letter Cavanaugh calls on the Super PAC to release its current and any future donors, as voters deserve to know who is funding these attack ads.
In response to questions about the Blue Dot, Cavanaugh responded:
“Since joining the Legislature, I have helped lead the progressive fight to secure the blue dot and restore reproductive rights. Democrats do not have to choose between standing up to Trump and protecting our Blue Dot. Republicans currently hold a super majority in Lincoln and have failed to repeal the Blue Dot. With strong Democrats running this cycle, I believe we will pick up seats in November, giving us more votes to protect the Blue Dot.”
